Disney Fans: Prepare To Go Nuts At This Aladdin News!

 —  By

Disney fans, your eyes do not deceive you. This is actually happening. Brad Kane and Lea Salonga (aka Aladdin and Jasmine from the original Disney movie) have reunited to sing A Whole New World. That dreamy piano melody, those pure, crisp vibratos; it’s everything we dreamed it could ever be. Longing gazes and cheesy smiles aplenty, it really is magical.

Lea went on to explain how they often sing the song at people’s engagements using wireless microphones. And Brad explained how after recording A Whole New World for the film, he didn’t sing the song again until his own wedding. This really is all too much.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Everyone’s favourite petty thief is officially back and better than ever. In a most excellent appearance on Good Morning America, original cast members returned after 23 whole years to talk about new digital versions of the film, which are supposedly being released later this month.

So what’s so special about the new version? The DVD will include never-before-seen clips of Robin Williams voicing the genie. YEP. The Aladdin outtakes show him bringing the genie to life in the recording booth, and are enough to bring a tear to anyone’s eye.

“Nobody else could be the genie,” explained directors, Ron Clements and John Musker. “There was nobody else who could be the genie and fortunately he agreed to do it.” Note: it’s worth watching this Aladdin outtakes video just to see this over-excited lady waving in the background 2 minutes, 40 seconds in. I think it’s safe to say that her reaction speaks for us all.

But what about other awesome Disney duets?

Ah, these Aladdin outtakes definitely made us want to be 5 years old again. But as we got caught up in YouTube videos, we found some other awesome Disney duets. Like this one: Ashanti and her little sister absolutely kill Colours of the Wind from Pocahontas.

And on the theme of covers, there’s this beautifully poignant cover of Part of Your World and fantastically jolly version of Under The Sea by Bruno Mars. So many emotions.

And N*Sync covered When You Wish Upon a Star. WHO KNEW!

And I’ll leave you with the one and only Miley Cyrus. Her version of Part of Your World is probably the best thing I’ve heard all year.
