You’ll Love What Harry Potter Fans Are Doing Now

Harry Potter fans are among some of the most hardcore in the world. And after this recent story, we kind of love them that little bit more.

Visitors to Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London have taken on a Potter mission of their very own: to free Dobby from his glass prison. How are they doing it? By leaving their socks, of course!

Avid readers of the Harry Potter books will know there’s only one way to free house elves from their magically enforced servitude. And that’s by gifting them with clothes.

Most house-elves are content with their status. In fact, they believe that receiving shelter and food in return for caring for their owners is a pretty sweet deal. Most of them, that is, apart from Dobby.

Harry famously tricks Lucius Malfoy into freeing Dobby from his servitude at the end of Chambers of Secrets (Please tell me it wasn’t just me who cried?). But it seems that the folks on the WB Studio Tour didn’t get that memo. I mean, just how could they encase Dobby in the glass tomb after everything he’s been through?! C’mon, Warner Bros: free Dobby!

One person who won’t be happy about this turn of events is Hermoine Granger. The young witch set up S.P.E.W (The Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) after witnessing the mis-treatment of elves during the Quidditch World Cup.

You know, house-elves get a very raw deal! It’s slavery, that’s what it is!…Why doesn’t anyone do something about it?—We hear ya, Hermione.

It’s still not clear whether fans are deliberately bringing along a spare sock to free Dobby. Or maybe they’re just taking off their own socks mid-tour? We’re not sure. But Digital Spy have reported that the socks are ‘smelly’. Ick. Either way, Potter fans: we salute your noble cause.
