These Are The 10 Types Of Jobs At Risk in 2015

 —  By

There’s even more bad news for workers this week. If it wasn’t enough that one in four jobs outside of London pay less than the living wage, and all our jobs will probably be taken over by robots soon, there’s this: some of our most beloved jobs could now be at risk.

Chill, Will. It's gonna be OK. 'Actor' isn't on the 'jobs at risk' list.

Among the jobs found to have the most dramatic decrease in expected hiring include:

  • Postman
  • Meter reader
  • Farmer
  • Newspaper reporter
  • Jeweller
  • Logging worker
  • Flight attendant
  • Drill press operator
  • Insurance underwriter
  • Seamstress/tailor

So it’s basically bad news all round for graduates and the unemployed. Just how experts are predicting your kids will Have To Work Until They’re 100, we have no idea. Surely there’ll be no jobs left by then?

While some of these jobs at risk do sound a bit outdated anyway (do seamstresses under the age of 90 years old exist?), we’re pretty gutted about some of the others. I  mean, could you imagine a world without postmen? Firstly, there would be no ‘perhaps it’s the postman’s child!’ jokes. Pat would be out of a job. Dogs would have to look elsewhere for a source of amusement. It would be like the 10 plagues of Egypt. We have no idea where it would all end.

With news breaking of these jobs at risk, we're preparing to say goodbye to our favourite postman.

But of the whole list, we are most shocked at the inclusion of flight attendants. Surely the aviation industry is so big right now that it makes sense to keep our flight attendants in business? I mean, who else is going to bring us our gin and tonics to calm our flying nerves?

But don’t fret. It’s not all bad news. There are some industries that are expected to expand. Unfortunately, those careers are not the kind of jobs we could just walk into on a Monday morning. The top 5 jobs of 2015 include:

  • Actuary
  • Audiologist
  • Mathematician
  • Statistician
  • Biomedical engineer

Looks like it’s back to school for us.
