Do coffee shop baristas work ridiculously unsociable hours or something? Or are they just constantly horny? First we hear that Pret A Manger staff give away free food and drink to customers they find attractive – and then we come across this story of a barista in Starbucks flirting with a customer in a pretty novel way. They’re like dogs on heat. Either way, can someone please give them all a cold shower? Or maybe just set up a Barista-only Tinder?
Starbucks flirting: Cute or creepy?
This picture was posted to the S*** London Facebook page by Alex Blaine. Unsurprisingly, she was pretty unimpressed with a Starbucks’ barista’s way of flirting with her daughter-in-law. Whoops. She commented: “Creepy barista writing inappropriate messages on my daughter’s coffee. Looks like son in-law material.”
Instead of just writing Lora’s name, the barista got creative with the permanent market, blanking out text so it read ‘Careful, you’re extremely hot’. And, just to make things that little bit weirder, they added an arrow with ‘READ IT’ in capital letters next to it. Oh god. So cringe. Make it stop.
While this attempt at flirting may not have impressed Lora (and her mother-in-law), it’s not the first time this kind of Starbuck flirting has hit the news. And, worryingly, it probably won’t be the last. A few years ago Huffington Post wrote about how all Starbucks baristas flirt in the same way.
So, it’s not particularly original. And we’ve yet to hear of any occasions when this kind of flirtation ever worked. Just god forbid Starbucks ever change their fine print. What would Starbucks baristas do to pass the time?
