Watch Game of Thrones Star ‘The Mountain’ Spar With UFC Fighter

 —  By

In one corner we have UFC fighter and#1 ranked featherweight Conor McGregor. In the other corner, towering in at over a foot taller and 274 pounds heavier, we have Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson. Aka ‘The Mountain’ from Game of Thrones. Aka (spoiler) that guy who effortlessly crushed Oberyn Martell’s skull in series four. Rubs hands with glee.

Sounds like a mismatched battle? It definitely looks it to us. But just see what happens when the two fighting machines met for a bare knuckle fight to the death. Who’s your money on? And the real question is: does McGregor escape with his skull intact?

The Mountain sparring a UFC fighter: Who’s the winner?

The footage of The Mountain sparring was uploaded to YouTube by TheMacLife Productions just a few days ago, and it’s already managed to hit almost 4 million views. And, thankfully, there are no major casualties. But despite the obvious physical differences, the two both give as good as they can get. And, ultimately, there can be only one winner.

The battle really turns into a case of strength v speed and agility. While Björnsson, an Icelandic professional strongman competitor, plods confidently across the mat, it’s McGregor, with his nimble footing, that wins out. Towards the end of the video, Björnsson falls to his knees, tired and defeated. And McGregor seizes his chance, getting a few kicks and punches in before the two high-five and hug it out like proper bros. Who would have thought it?

Of course, Björnsson fans will know that the star isn’t just a talented actor. Starting his sports career as a basketball player, the star had to give it all up after suffering a severe knee injury at just 20 years old. Luckily this didn’t put him off keeping fit – he just channeled his energy into being named the Strongest Man in Iceland in 2010. Oh, and then earlier this year he broke a 1,000-year-old record by carrying a 30-foot, 1,433-pound log at the World’s Strongest Viking competition in Norway. What a guy.
