These Star Wars Recuts Are Beyond Epic

 —  By

Who’s excited about the new Star Wars movie? Yeah, I think we all are. Forget about Christmas this year. It’s 17th December that I’m counting down to.

With it still being a few weeks until the film of the year is released, our eyes are starting to get pretty twitchy for some Star Wars action. So we thought, where can we go for our pre-release day fix?

And that’s when it dawned on us. It Dawn(ed) of the Jedi on us. (Sorry). Why not head over to YouTube for some epic fan-made Star Wars recuts of trailers? As it turns out, there are actually quite a few. And, believe it or not, they’re actually pretty good. So, here’s a selection of the best Star Wars recuts we’ve found around the web. And don’t forget to let us know your favourite in the comments below, or over on our Facebook page.

Star Wars trailer (in Guardians of the Galaxy style)

One of the best things about 2014’s insta-classic Guardians of the Galaxy was its off-kilter sense of humour. Oh, and its cracking retro soundtrack. But that’s two things…

Uploaded to YouTube by The Unusual Suspect, this recut turns the classic Star Wars story into one that’s almost completely unrecognisable. Gone are the suspenseful build-ups, John Williams theme tune and extended lightsaber battle sequences. Instead, they’re replaced by a ’70s soundtrack, lashings of comedy and space camaraderie. It probably won’t appeal to hardcore Star Wars fans, but we can’t help but feel like it’s one of the Star Wars recuts on our list that would be awesome if it were to actually come true.

Star Wars prequels edited into one film

Hands up: who gets a little confused when it comes to putting all the Star Wars movies in order? It’s OK to admit it. We’re all friends here. Luckily, Topher Grace of That ’70s Show fame has just the ticket: he recut the three prequels, Episodes I, II and III into one 85-minute film.

We won’t post that film here. Mainly because it’s not actually available to view online. But the 84-second trailer irons out a few questions that the confused among us might still have.

Star Wars as a rom-com

So far, the Star Wars recuts on our list have been deadly serious. But this recut from Jimmy Kimmel turns the Episode VII: The Force Awakens trailer on its head, completely changing its genre. It reimagines Star Wars as a romantic comedy with a typically cringey voiceover. It even concludes with the quote: “Sometimes the greatest force of all…is love.” Pass the vom bucket.

The Empire Strikes Back in the style of The Force Awakens

Ooft, out of all our Star Wars recuts, this is one that could easily be mistaken for the real thing. Even though it’s given a more modern update, fans of the original will appreciate the original 1970s text bumpers and 20th Century Fox logo. Eagle-eyed fans will also spot that it uses original footage of the Emperor having a holographic meeting with Darth Vader (as opposed to the updated version from the BluRay and DVD movie release).

Star Wars: The Binks Awakens

Everyone loves a bit of Jar Jar Binks, don’t they? No? Oh. Well, this had to make our list of Star Wars recuts. And let’s face it: it was pretty much created with the sole premise of rubbing everyone up the wrong way. It’s pretty fantastic. Bonus points if you have success convincing someone that this trailer is of the latest Star Wars movie. G’wannn.
